Musician/Singer Call Out

We are an established female led company run by Co-Artistic Directors Hannah Stone and Ria Ashcroft, who are both theatre making mums. We create contemporary, playful, high quality children’s theatre that centres female heroes. We use circus, aerial, clowning and storytelling in our work. We have been devising and touring original theatre shows nationally for 11 years. We are currently Creative Residents at Curve Theatre and supported by Oxford Playhouse on their Evolve Scheme. 

The Project

Supported by Curve Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse, Lakeside Arts, Mansfield Palace and Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and funded by Arts Council England we will undertake an exciting R&D exploring making aerial theatre for babies & their parents/carers. We’ll work with partners in arts, local communities and academia to learn about baby development and co-creating a new piece of theatre with this audience culminating in work in progress sharings. This will be the Gramophones first show for this audience.

We are looking for a talented musician with a passion for working with young audiences to join our team to help us create a new aerial theatre show for babies. We’d like a musician who can play multiple instruments, and is a playful, fun and engaging performer.

Musician/Singer 

Essential:

Highly Skilled in at least one Woodwind or Brass instruments

Singing

Performing

We are looking for a female or non-binary performer.

Desirable: 

Clowning or comedy experience

Children’s theatre experience

Base in the East Midlands

Timeline:

1st week of R&D: 6-10th March, sharing at Curve theatre (Leicester) Friday 10th March

2nd week of R&D: 31st July-5th of August, sharing at Circus Hub (Nottingham) Saturday 5th August.

Fee:

£1200 plus travel expenses, accommodation and access support as required.

Phase 1: Director researching early years work. Director and producer networking & building relationships with other early years experts & theatre companies.

Phase 2: 2 wks R&D with creatives, 2 sharings at Curve, Leicester and Circus Hub Nottingham

Throughout: Run free local baby aerial classes & workshops, work with community & Priority Place partners, theatres, HE, museums & libraries

Key dates

  • Deadline to apply midnight 31st Jan 
  • Interview 8th February
  • 1st week of R&D rehearsals 6th, 7th, 8th March at Circus Hub, Nottingham & 9th 10th at Curve Theatre, Leicester with a sharing for audiences on the 10th of March.
  • 2nd week of R&D rehearsals 31st July-4th August at Circus Hub, Nottingham with a sharing on the 4th of August.
  • Workshop dates tbc
  • Baby aerial classes at Circus Hub running throughout the year on a Tuesday morning 10.15-11.30am

Job Specification- Freelance Producer

We are looking for a highly organised, dynamic and experienced theatre producer to lead on this project who is passionate about making work for early years audiences and parents/carers. Ideally we’d like to find someone interested in building a deeper relationship with the company for a longer term collaboration.

Job Requirements

-Managing the project timeline and team ensuring deadlines are met

-Contracting the team for the project

-Maintaining and developing relationships with partners

-Booking travel and accommodation for team and participants

-Developing new relationships for the next stages of the project including inviting key funders and programmers to see the work in progress sharings

-Managing the budget

-Sending invoices

-Marketing the baby aerial classes and the work in progress sharings including creating basic flyers, imagery and promoting on social media.

-Work alongside the lead artist to create call-outs for creative team and manage the recruitment process.

-Organising and scheduling meetings

-Leading on collating audience figures and finalising the funding evaluation for the Arts Council 

-Develop and implement audience development & engagement strategy for baby aerial classes & workshops

-Alongside Lead Artist, develop Risk assessment & safeguarding for baby aerial classes, workshops and performances.

-Make provisions for access needs of audience, participants and creative team.
